Generally speaking, they don’t live up to the hype, but occasionally they do. There are strategies that most Minnesotans take for granted that can help make the winter more bearable, even though I could live without icy sidewalks and never-ending darkness. minnesota winter forecast provides these few tips for embracing Minnesota winters if you are new to the area and concerned about the weather:

    • Start dressing correctly in September

If your ears are cold, put on a cap and go outside since you cannot adapt to the weather if you stay indoors. I can assure you that wearing less only prolongs winter and does not make you stronger. Invest in a winter outfit and welcome the sweater and boot weather. If it gets very chilly, don’t be scared to add long underwear.

    • Enjoy being outside

Fall, as we approach winter, is a crucial time for this. If you begin hibernating at the time school starts, the winter will be quite lengthy. Hiking in the fall, ice, and sled skate in the winter, then as the ice starts to melt, throw on rain boots, utilizing wool socks below if required, as well as puddle splash.

    • Recognize the seasons

I mean it when I say this. Winter doesn’t officially begin until December 21. It runs through March 19th. Celebrate spring in all its weather ambiguity and don’t sacrifice fall to winter just because we receive a little snow and ice. Even when we experience a spring blizzard, the atmosphere is much more optimistic and springlike. Enjoy the splendors of the revolving seasons.

    • Light candles at the dinner table, gather around a bonfire or decorate with Christmas lights to mark the winter solstice in December
    • Plan some unique Martin Luther King Day fun in January
    • Make it memorable with a cozy drive to see holiday light displays
    • In February, it’s acceptable to withdraw indoors since we’re almost done; the kids are out of school, so it’s the perfect time to embrace everything cold. With this 28 Days of Cozy Indoor Play, you can give your house a mini-Hygge makeover, create Valentine’s cards, and experience all the wonderful indoor activities our cities have to offer.

Only half of winter remains in March.  Go outside to participate in a parade and explore the woods to see how maple syrup is made on St. Patrick’s Day!

    • Expect about 14 days of weather that is simply intolerable

Knowing that this will only last for two weeks (though generally not all at once) keeps you in the correct frame of mind to get through the iciest days. The hardest days typically occur between Valentine’s Day and mid-March, though not always; the Christmas of 2022 was rather chilly. By appreciating the nicer days in between, you can get through this. You only need to add clothes or stay inside on bitterly cold days if you have been wearing them adequately for the remainder of fall, as well as winter.
