A burst pipe is something anybody doesn’t want to experience. But sometimes, the situation is unavoidable. If your plumbing system is more than 10 years old, there’s a high risk that you’ll encounter a burst pipe. Below, are some ideas on how to perform a plumbing burst pipe repair. It is best to seek professional help when doing so.

    What Should You Do First?

Prevention is better than cure. Regular checking, cleaning, and maintenance of your plumbing system can help you lessen the chances of experiencing a burst pipe. Should you encounter one, the first thing to do is to shut down your main water line.

You may also need to shut down your electricity supply to avoid the dangers of electrocution or fire. If there’s a strong flow of water from the burst pipe, you will need to call a plumbing burst pipe repair service.

Never attempt to fix it yourself if you don’t have enough knowledge of the plumbing system. Besides putting yourself in danger, it may increase the damage to your water pipe system.

How to Perform a Plumbing Burst Pipe Repair?

The very first step to a plumbing burst pipe repair is to get enough information about the damage and your plumbing system as a whole. Modern technology can help them identify damages and leaks. They can use a digital listening device to locate all the leaks in your water pipes.

They can also use a CCTV camera to inspect the inside of your plumbing system. Through the video inspection. You’ll be able to see any blockage, build-up, or corrosion within your water pipes.

After the inspection, your plumber will tell you the extent of the damage and the steps they need to perform for a plumbing burst pipe repair. These may include repairs on your ceilings, floors, and walls and renovation of your landscape. They will also provide you with the cost and estimates of the labour, parts, and permits that they’ll need to accomplish.

Depending on your plumbing system, there are different ways to perform a plumbing burst pipe repair. First, they can check where the water leak is coming from. If the leaking water pipe can still be repaired, they can cut the pipe. They’ll remove the damaged part and cement or solder the damaged part section. Joints may also be added to seal the damaged pipe.

If the burst pipe comes from a sewer line, a trenchless technique can be performed by a plumbing burst repair team. There’s no need for extensive diggings using the said technique. The plumbing burst repair team will insert a pipe liner on the damaged water pipe.

Afterwards, they will inject an epoxy resin that will form into a new pipe to replace the damaged one. The new pipe is inside the damaged pipe but they are aligned and attached to the other pipes without any gaps or holes.

In Australia, there are different types of materials making up the water pipes. These include cast iron, copper, galvanized steel, lead, PEX, and PVC.  Cast iron galvanized steel, and PVC pipes typically last for 50 years.

Copper and lead can last for up to 80 years but they can contaminate the water supply. Plumbing burst pipe repairs commonly recommend PEX as a burst pipe solution. It’s because they are easy to install and can last longer.
