It is hard to prevent ticks from climbing on your body as they are everywhere. If you go out every day, you are vulnerable to getting them. They can especially find you if you live near forests or go for a hike or camping. As they are incredibly tiny, you will not know when they crawl on your skin until they bite you. They are also difficult to spot, which makes removing them difficult.

If you have found a tick on yourself, you are probably panicking about how many more there are. It is important to know the right practices to remove them from yourself or from someone else. You do not want to neglect the situation and have them expand their families. Search for Collinsville Pest Control in Google for effective tick eradication in your home.

Steps to properly remove a tick

Before you begin, here are two things you need for the process: a pair of pointy tweezers and rubbing alcohol. Remember that you will need sharp pointy tweezers, and not the ones women use to pluck their eyebrows. This is because ticks can be as tiny as poppy seeds. Using regular tweezers might tear the tick’s body.

Here are the steps to follow:

    • Using your tweezers, pull the tick as firmly as possible. Do not kill it.
    • Clean the area with rubbing alcohol or soap water again.

What to do with the extracted tick?

You can either send the tick to a lab to see if it was carrying any diseases or simply get rid of it. To send it to a lab, place the tick in a small sealed plastic bag with a piece of grass inside to keep it alive. If you are not sure where to send it, ask your doctor.

Crushing the tick between your nails or with your fingers can be tempting. However, this is another way you can get disease from it. Drown it in rubbing alcohol or soapy water to kill it. You can also flush it down the toilet.

When is a tick bite dangerous?

If you suspect a tick bite is causing unusual symptoms, call your doctor right away. Here are some symptoms to check:

    • Red, irritated skin.

    • Avoid suffocating the tick.
    • Never try to burn the tick.
